N gauge, by Nick Lloyd & Josh Voce. At our 70th anniversary exhibition on 17 and 18 October.
17 and 18 OctoberCorfe Hills School, Broadstone
Broadstone was the famous junction at the southern end of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway. On the layout, a procession of trains shows the real traffic of both the Somerset & Dorset and the Old Road between Poole and Brockenhurst, in the BR steam era, through a faithfully captured station and junction.
Look out for the familiar features of the real place: the Railway Hotel, the distinctive station buildings and footbridge, and the unusual gallows signals. The real station was here in Broadstone, not far from this year's show hall.
The layout was built by the late Ben Dean and exhibited locally for a time. Several years ago two Swanage Railway volunteers, Nick Lloyd and Josh Voce, took it on, together with its carefully built locomotives and rolling stock. Since then it has had a sympathetic refresh of the scenery and been rewired to modern standards. This show is only its second exhibition appearance in over 20 years.
It is 16ft long and viewed along its whole front. The operators work from behind, with the fiddle yard behind the scenic section.
